1 | P a g ePART I STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW)Department of Veterans AffairsRobley Rex VA Medical CenterReplace Steam TrapsIntroduction This project will Replace Steam Traps that have failed or need to be converted to steel steam traps at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center, 800 Zorn Avenue, Louisville, KY. The period of performance is 240 days.Background Existing steam traps have failed, causing steam condensate to back-up, shock, flashing, hammering and equipment failures.Project ObjectivesReplace 100 traps and all required trap assembly items (VA will supply all isolation valves, strainers, and check valves; all pipe, nipples and fittings will be responsibility of contractor). The contractor shall install all parts needed (traps, nipples, pipe, isolation valves, check valves, strainers, and trap tags) for each trap being replaced.Where traps are being replaced, replace failed or missing components at each trap assembly. Refer to VA Standard Details for trap assemblies (attached). Verify complete, compliant, functional assemblies.Coordinate and monitor to ensure the work is safe and complete. Provide foremen to directly oversee the work crews, ensuring proper precautions and performance.Perform Quality Control (QC) to ensure compliant, complete, working assemblies. QC shall be performed by a mechanical engineer that is a steam specialist. The QC engineer shall inspect and certify each trap assembly, including trap selection, function, and installation. Operational verification shall include equipment directly served by trap assembly. Any issues identified by the contractor s engineer shall be corrected, re- inspected and certified. At the completion of work, provide a final stamped certification report documenting the work, inspections, corrective actions, and approval of each assembly.Minimize disruptions on medical center operations.
