Tender are invited for The Alaska Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Oil and Gas (DO&G) is designating 55,771 acres on Augustine Island and in the tide and submerged lands offshore around Augustine Island as a competitive geothermal area (AS 38.05.181(b); 11 AAC 84.720(d)). The intent of this decision document is to approve a lease sale over the acreages designated as a competitive geothermal area.The commissioner is asserting their authority under AS 38.05.181(b) and 11 AAC 84.720(d) to designate this area as a Sale Area. This decision is based on the history of commercial exploration interest in this area as well as the available geologic information indicating a substantial likelihood of commercial geothermal resources in the area. In making this final finding, the director considered the Sale Area, including its terrestrial freshwater and marine habitats, and the fish, birds and wildlife that use them; current uses of the area; its geothermal resource potential; reasonably foreseeable, significant effects of geothermal activities; and the mitigation measures for protection of the area-s resources, ha...
