This request is to rent one (1) Type A Shielded Shipping Container and Trailer for use at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (KAPL) to support upcoming maintenance for the DLA project. EnergySolutions is the one and only responsible source available to provide this service. The relevant market for leasing a Type A Shipping Cask is relatively small. The Type A Shipping Cask is utilized to provide shielding and transport radioactive waste across federal highways. The cask must meet Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements to transport the radioactive waste. The Navy imposes additional requirements for the shipment of radioactive material, and to meet the DOT and Navy requirements, a specialized shipping cask with a high lead shielding factor is required. Additionally, the shipping cask must meet dimensional requirements to be utilized with the support equipment required for the high-risk work. - Documents:
