Description:
Sub-Saharan Africa is experiencing rapid urbanization,leading to increased demand for efficient and sustainable public transportationsystems. Various bus technologies, including conventional diesel buses,electric buses, compressed natural gas (CNG) buses, and hybrid buses, are beingconsidered as potential solutions to meet these transportation needs. Acomprehensive analysis is required to determine the most suitable bustechnology for different contexts in Africa based on Life Cycle Costs (LCC). Additionally,a roadmap for the deployment of the selected technology is essential forinformed decision-making and strategic planning.The main objectives of this consultancy are as follows:Conduct a comprehensive comparative analysis of different bus technologies (diesel, CNG, electric) for different bus sizes (large, midi and min buses), considering various technical, economic, financial, tax, environmental, and other relevant factors. The analysis aim to be developed in several contexts in Africa, and will include data collection on the ground, to make the analysis well adapted to different African cities context.Evaluate organizational and institutional requirements for different bus technologies. Identify the pros and cons of each bus technology for different bus sizes, with a focus on their suitability for Sub-Saharan Africa cities and regions.Analyze the life cycle cost of different bus types, taking into account the significant variability in bus capital costs, fueling technology cost and availability (CNG, electric, biofuels, cleaner diesel standards, and other relevant) and identify the main factors affecting these cost ranges.Develop key recommendations to include technical specifications for each type of bus based on the comparative analysis.Develop a detailed draft roadmap for the deployment of the selected bus technology in Sub-Saharan Africa, outlining key building blocks and a proposed timeline.
