  • Description:
  • Expression of Interest are invited for Digital Market Platform for Mechanization Services. Β· Issue Date and Time: Aug 09,2023 05:44 Β· Closing Date and Time: Aug 21,2023 23:59 About Ifc-S Agribusiness Client and the Project Ifc-S Agribusiness Client; Soufflet is a Leading International Malt Producer and is Working Closely with Farmers to Help Grow and Transform Ethiopia-S Barely Sector. Building Local Supply Chain is at the Heart of the Client-S Strategy to Ensure They have Enough Barley for Their Greenfield Malting Facility in Bole Lemi Industrial Park in Addis Ababa. Soufflet Malt Ethiopia (Sme) and Heineken have Phase 2 Malt Barley Supply Chain Development Advisory Project with Ifc. The Four-Year Project Aims to Substantially Increase Sme-S Local Sourcing of Commercially Available Malt Barley from 20;000 Smallholder and 20 Emergent Commercial Farmers Mostly in Areas Where Malt Barley is not Widely Grown to Purchase 21;000 Metric Tons of Annual Raw Malt Barley by the End of the Project. This is Done through Improving the Malt Barley Production Capacity of Farmers; Building the Business Management Capacity of Entities in the Supply/Distribution Chain; Establishing Contract Farming and Scale up of E-Payment System and Deployment of Crop Yield Estimation Tools in Developed Production Areas. The Project Works in 4 Regional States (Oromia; Sidama; Amhara; Snnpr) and 8 Zones (Arsi; Bale; North Shewa; East Shewa; Guji; Sidama; South Gonder; And Gurage). However; For the Mechanization Services Pilot; Developed Areas Such as w.arsi will Also be Considered. Why Digital Market Platform for Mechanization Service? The Process of Transformation of Rural Livelihoods Requires the Application of Farm Power to Appropriate Tools; Implements and Machines. However; The Level of Mechanization and Contribution to Improve Agricultural Productivity in African Farming Systems including Ethiopia is Significantly Low. This Low Level of Labour Productivity in Agriculture Leads to Low Incomes; Food and Nutrition Insecurity and Poverty. Smallholders have Great Difficulties in Accessing Modern Technologies and Agricultural Equipment; Such as tractors.some of the Challenges Include: * - High Post-Harvest Loose: Due to Lack of Better Harvesting Practice; 30% of (Fao; 2018) the Highly Awaiting Yield will be Lost. The Availability of a Harvester and Thresher Machinery will Allow Farmers to Harvest on Time with Better Quality and Reduce the Post-Harvesting Loss to 5% (Emspoa; Annual Report). - - Lack of Creditable Information: Service Providers are not Aware of the Size of the Market and Smallholder Farmers - are not Aware of the Available Service. Also; There is No Credible Information on Cultivable Land; Farmers Profile and Yield Harvested Which Leads to Controversial Data during Decision Making. Thus; Service Providers have Difficulty to Increase Asset Utilization Rates as Well as Providing β€œService - for - Hire” for Smallholder Farmers Efficiently and in a Commercially Viable Way. - Lack of Platform that Matches Demand and Supply: With Limited/Lack of Digital Platform and Agents that Connects Farmers and Service Providers; It is not Economical for Farmers to Seek - Mechanization Services Such as Tractors; Combine Harvester and Thresher by Themselves. The Harvesting Amount of a Single Farmer would not be Attractive for the Service Provider and is Constrained by Land Fragmentation and Economic Non-Viability of Smallholder Market. The Platform Aggregates Harvesting Work and Communicates to the Service Provider Reducing Transaction Costs. Trained Agents Who are the Last Mile to the Farmers can Connect Individual Farmers to Services by Aggregating Demand to Mechanization Service Providers and can Also Support Farmers to Map Their Farms Using Mobile Apps to Measure Farm Sizes.- High Cost of Service: Due to the Presence of Many Brokers at Various Layers and Their Exaggerated Role; Smallholder Farmers are Forced to Pay High for the service.objective of the Assignment - Mechanization Services:One of the Agricultural Pathways towards Sustainable Malt Barley Development is through Local Production; An Activity in Which Smallholder Farmers Play a Crucial Role. This Needs Inclusive Market Platforms and Approaches that Support Promoting Greater Linkage and Integration of Smallholders into Market Opportunities including Mechanization Service in the Agricultural Value Chain. The Development of Agricultural Mechanization Service in Malt Barley Production is Still Limited. To this End; Ifc is Seeking to Introduce Digital Based Market Platform for Mechanization Services in an Agribusiness Project and Help an Ifc Client Strengthen Their: Mechanization Service Demand and Supply Aggregation; Digital Access to Link Small Holder Farmers with Mechanization Service Providers and Information Dissemination on Available Services to Organized Farmers and Mechanization Service Providers in General. The Platform is Aimed to Enable Farmers to Request Affordable Services Anytime and Anywhere through Their Phones Assisted by Trained Agents; While Providing Enhanced Security to Machinery Owners through Remote Asset Tracking and Virtual Monitoring. This Solution can Bridge the Gap between Traditional Farming and More Technologically Advanced Approaches; With a Goal to Increase and Optimize Mechanization Services While Empowering Farmers to Earn More and Grow Faster with a Fraction of the Cost of Manual Labor Reducing Transaction costs.ifc Intends to Contract a Consulting Firm (β€œthe Consultant”) Who will Establish a Technology-Enabled System for Automating the Technology Requirements of the Ifc Client. The Required Solution will be a Mobile; Call Center or Web-Based System that Inco Nfn. The Wbg Reserves the Right to Publicly Disclose Contract Award Information, including but not Limited to, Name of Company Receiving the Award, Brief Description of Services, and Contract Award Amount, for Any Contract Award Valued over Us$250,000. Offeror's Proposal and Contractual Documents will Remain Confidential and Therefore not Subject to Disclosure.
