- Description:
- The Department of Natural Resources requests proposals to capture up to forty (40) adult elk, per year for two (2) years. They will help collect biological data from each captured animal and will place global positioning system (GPS) collar on each animal used for tracking. Net gunning will be used if conditions allow. Otherwise, we will capture elk via chemical immobilization. The goal of the capture project is to learn about basic life-history traits of elk located in northwestern Minnesota. Some of our main objectives include better understanding how adult male and female elk use the landscape and move amongst subpopulations. We also desire to better understand cause-specific adult and juvenile mortality.
