Tender are invited for Project # SFHWY00196 The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) invites you to attend a Public Open House to learn more about the proposed improvements to the Tongass Avenue and Water Street Viaducts in Ketchikan. The purpose of this project is to extend the service life of the corridor and enhance safety and mobility for all users, including pedestrians, vehicles, and transit. The proposed project will involve repairing portions of both the Tongass Avenue and Water Street viaducts as needed, with sections of the Water Street structure that have exceeded their service life being replaced with fill material. To enhance pedestrian accessibility and safety, sidewalks will be widened, wheelchair access at crosswalks will be improved, and pedestrian railings will be upgraded to meet current standards. The corridor will be repaved to provide a smoother driving surface, and drainage improvements near the intersection with Chapman Street will address ongoing flooding issues.
