SCOPE OF CONTRACT
The Pacific Northwest Research Station (R-26) manages the Maybeso Experimental Forest (EF) Administrative Site located in Hollis Alaska (Prince of Wales Island). Two National GAOA projects, co-located in Hollis AK.
The Two (2) Cabin Replacement at Hollis is situated on an Administrative US Forest Service site (Federal Property). Replacement of these cabins will continue to provide critical research on the effects of timber harvesting and forest regeneration.
Single-story structure, with a semi-open ABA/ADA floor plan and ABA/ADA entry pathway compliant. The cabin-s foundation may be a monolithic stem-wall, slab on grade, a sealed cement block stem-wall or an insulated concrete form (ICFs) may also be used. Ideally using materials that will tolerate exposure to salt air, that are naturally resistant to harsh weather such as decay-resistant woods, or composite materials that are designed to withstand the coastal elements with little or no maintenance.
Innovative structural materials (i.e., mass timber) or energy efficient interior materials for wall, floor and ceiling insulation as well as exterior finishes are encouraged. Exterior fiber cement siding (i.e., Hardi Board) or cedar lap siding is the preferred exterior covering.
