Beneficial Use of Dredged Material
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District would like to invite dredging industry contractors to Industry Day 2025 for the Delaware River, Philadelphia to Sea Beneficial Use of Dredged Material Project.
Project Authorization: The Delaware River, Philadelphia to the Sea deep draft navigation project was originally authorized in House Document (HD) 61-733 as modified by HD 71-304, River and Harbors Committee Document 73-5, Senate Document 75-159, HD 76-580, HD 77-340, HD 83-358 and HD 85-135, and provides for a 45- deep Federal channel in the Delaware River, from the entrance of Delaware Bay to the Ben Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia.
In order to meet the goals of the Delaware River, Philadelphia to Sea Beneficial Use of Dredged Material Project (Delaware Bayshore), the dredged sand would be beneficially used as beach nourishment along two or more of the following Delaware Bayshore towns of Pickering Beach, Kitts Hummock, Bowers Beach, South Bowers Beach, Slaughter Beach, Lewes and/or Prime Hook Beach IAW Section 401 of WRDA 2020 and as generally described in the Chief-s Report dated March 2020 and approved by the chief of Engineers on 6 March 2020. Federal funds for the DPS Project were provided in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024 to initiate design and construction of the Project under Section 204(d) of WRDA 1992 as authorized by Section 8327 of WRDA 2022. This proposed project is intended to be done in conjunction with routine maintenance dredging between July of 2026 and March of 2027, subject to the availability of non-Federal Sponsor funds to advertise and award a dredging contract before the end of Fiscal Year (FY) 2026.
