    Title: Sources Sought Notice for 7 Interferometric Displacement Sensors
    The purpose of this sources sought notice is to conduct market research and identify potential sources of commercial products/services that satisfy the Government-s anticipated needs.
    BACKGROUND
    The National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST), Fundamental Electrical Metrology Group, requires the purchase of SEVEN (7x) 1-axis real-time fiber-optic-based interferometer systems. This laser interferometer will be used to build a compact (portable), primary standard instrument for realizing gram-level masses via a tabletop Kibble balance traceable to the quantum SI. The laser interferometer will be used to measure and control position changes in the self calibration and measurement modes of the Kibble balance. This interferometer is required to perform accurate relative distance measurements in air and such requires measuring local environmental parameters such as humidity, temperature and pressure to reduce air-induced variations of the index of refraction. Furthermore, it is required to be traceable to international length standards (NIST-traceable).
    The laser system should be compact in size to be integrated into the instrument. Sensor heads must be interconnected via individual glass fibers and must be capable of working with reflective mirrors as the counter-surface. Three individual sensor heads are needed. The size of the sensor heads should not exceed 25 mm diameter. A high-speed interface for real-time data communication is required. Detailed performance specifications are given below.
    System shall have one (1) position measurement axis channels.
    System shall have one (1) individual compact sensor heads connected by fibers for 1 axis displacement measurements.
