Tender are invited for Project # SFHWY00680 The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is proposing to repair the piles at the Cold Bay Alaska Marine Highway Dock. The Cold Bay Dock was constructed in 1978 and serves as the only marine connection in Cold Bay. The existing facility, which consists of an approach trestle, an old dock and a newer dock, is at the end of its useful life and is currently slated for future replacement. DOT&PF enlisted Collins Engineers, Inc. to conduct an in-depth inspection in February/March 2024 to understand immediate repairs needed to maintain this critical lifeline for public transportation and delivery of fuel, goods, and cargo. The inspection identified three piles with rust holes that were recommended for immediate repair. The proposed project would repair three piles by installing a structural steel patch with welding. A cracked weld at one of the piles will also be repaired.All proposed work for the project will occur above water with no floodplain encroachments anticipated.Construction is projected to begin in summer 2025.The environmental review, consultation, ...
