Title: Noventa Single-mode 532 nm laser for Brillouin Light Scattering Spectrometer Notice of Intent to Sole Source to Government Scientific Source
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking information from sources that may be capable of providing a Noventa 532 nm single frequency laser. If no alternate sources are identified, the Government intends to issue a Sole Source Award to Government Scientific Source (12355 Sunrise Valley Dr. Suite 400, Reston, VA 20191) under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b); only one source reasonably available. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516.
BACKGROUND
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Physical Measurement Laboratory (PML) requires a Noventa 532 nm single frequency laser to measure magnetic wavelike excitations.
Brillouin Light scattering spectrometers to measure magnetic wavelike excitations. NIST will build a second spectrometer, which promises faster data acquisition than an already existing spectrometer. A critical component of these spectrometers is a stable single-mode continuous wave (cw) laser. Lasers. The laser pump-diodes have finite lifetimes and require replacement at the factory. Also, lasers need to be eventually returned to the factory for repairs or service. To minimize downtime and ensure continuous measurement capability on both spectrometers in case a laser needs to be returned to the factory, we require that the lasers can be moved between the two spectrometers and simply dropped into the other system. This requires that the laser specifications are identical to the existing laser. The power may exceed the power of the existing laser.

Laser shall be a diode pump solid state (DPSS laser with an output power of 250 mW at 532 nm.
