Background
The Appalachian Fruit Research Station (AFRS) in Kearneysville, West Virginia conducts fundamental, applied, and developmental research on critical problems of temperate fruit production (apples, peaches, pears, plums, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries). The AFRS develops new knowledge, germplasm, and technology to maximize productivity and quality of fruit crops to ensure a stable and cost-efficient supply of safe and nutritious fruits to American consumers.
The facility currently utilizes water provided by a system of on-site wells, storage tanks and distribution piping to supply domestic water, fire sprinkler, and orchard irrigation requirements.
The facility would like to restore the existing irrigation systems to fully functional conditions and to place additional acreage under irrigation. To ensure there is adequate water available to meet the increased demands for irrigation, the location would like to utilize public utility water to provide domestic water to the site.
Requirements
Provide an 8” domestic water service from an existing 8” West Virginia American Municipal Water Main located in the Clendening Drive Right-of-Way to the southeast corner of USDA-s property as Identified in Keyed Notes 1 and 2 on Drawing C-100, Revision 1. West Virginia Water, or their designated Contractor, will be responsible for obtaining all required permits and regulatory approvals and paying the associated fees.
