The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - St. Paul District is seeking a Contractor to develop and supply six (6) outdoor interpretive panels that will be installed at the Gull Lake Recreation Area (GLRA) near Brainerd, Minnesota. Panels will cover different USACE topics, and multiple topics could be included on a single panel.
Previous interpretive signage was removed at the request of representatives of nearby Native American tribes due to proximity to sensitive/sacred areas and inaccurate information. Tribal representatives have requested new signs focus on tribal way of life versus the burial mounds in the area. The interpretive panels should be used to communicate the tribal way of life, rich history of the area, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers role in protecting natural resources.
Gull Lake Recreation Area is a diverse site where people, engineering, and nature continue to define its rich history.

People Tribal history USACE history at GLRA site Engineering (Operations) Dam construction story Dam operations today Nature (Environmental Stewardship) Wildlife that call the Gull River channel home through the seasons Rusty patched bumble bee, an endangered species found at GLRA, pollinator restoration Wildlife inventory findings completed at GLRA River fish; life cycle of walleye on the Gull River Applicable panel(s) will have a bi and/or tri-lingual Tribal information component with incorporation of Dakota and Anishinaabe languages. Panels specific to tribal history and way of life will have a larger section of these translations alongside the English text. At a minimum, panels may have one word or phrase translated into Dakota and/or Anishinaabe languages.
