Advanced surgical microscope systemStatement of Need1. GENERAL: The James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, located at 13000 Bruce B. Downs Blvd, Tampa, Florida 33612, requires one (1) Pentero 800 S surgical microscope for the Otolaryngology Clinic. 2. BACKGROUND: Currently, the only surgical microscope at the facility meeting the needs of both the Neurosurgical and Otolaryngology sections is the Zeiss Kinevo. The Kinevo microscope has traditionally been primarily used by Neurosurgery. Since the Otolaryngology section began performing microvascular reconstructions, both sections have had to share this microscope. Sharing has led to multiple scheduling conflicts, resulting in delayed surgical care and, in some cases, Veterans being referred to community care due to extended wait times. Acquiring the Pentero 800 S microscope will provide necessary redundancy in our facility s capabilities, ensuring continuity of care when the Kinevo microscope is unavailable due to maintenance or repair. The Kinevo microscope has been out of service multiple times in the past one to two years, and no other current surgical microscope at the facility is an optimal alternative for either Neurosurgical or Otolaryngology reconstructive procedures. 3. PURPOSE: The purpose of the Pentero 800S surgical microscope is to purchase an additional piece of equipment that will satisfy the current and future needs of the Otolaryngology/Microvascular reconstructive surgeries. 4. SCOPE: The contractor shall provide all deliverables listed in the full document. This is a brand name or equal procurement. The basis for the design is the Pentero 800 S.
