This notice is not a request for a quotation. A solicitation document will not be issued and quotations will not be requested.
This acquisition is being conducted under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) via FAR 13.106-1(b). The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing.
The Physical Measurement Laboratory at NIST develops advanced sensors to measure acceleration. As part of this work a shaker (also called a vibrational exciter system) is required to test photonic accelerometers. Specifically, we require a shaker that: 1) will operate vertically, 2) includes an internal reference accelerometer, 3) is fully compatible with our current system that uses a Spektra model SE-29 shaker, and 4) meets or exceeds the performance of the SE-29. The system will include the shaker, the amplifier to run it, the internal reference accelerometer, and the signal conditioning electronics to read it, as well as all cables and accessories required to operate the system with an accelerometer mounted. After thorough evaluation, it has been determined that the Precision Shaker Spectrometer from manufacturer, Spektra dba APS Dynamics, is essential for several reasons:
Compatibility: The new shaker must be a drop-in replacement for the existing shaker system to allow interoperability with the acceleration measurement and data acquisition NIST has developed. NIST has put a considerable amount of time and investment into developing the acceleration and data acquisition on the existing shaker system.
