Description:
The Public Works Facilities Division oversees the maintenance and operational readiness of 8 emergency generators located at critical City facilities, including City Hall, Joslyn Senior Center, the Corporation Yard, and the City-s three Fire Stations. These generators are essential to maintaining public safety and continuity of operations during power outages. To ensure they remain in optimal working condition, the Division administers a comprehensive preventative maintenance program. This includes scheduled quarterly and annual services (see scope of work) such as multi-point inspections (covering engine fluids, battery systems, belts, hoses, filters, and electrical connections), load bank testing to simulate full electrical demand, transfer switch testing to confirm seamless transition between utility and generator power, and fuel polishing to remove water, sediment, and microbial contamination from diesel fuel.In addition to routine preventative maintenance, the contract also includes as-needed extra repair work to address unexpected issues or failures that may arise throughout the year. This may involve component replacement, fluid leak repairs, electrical diagnostics, starter or alternator service, or emergency troubleshooting and repairs following a system malfunction. These responsive services ensure that the generators remain fully functional and compliant with safety, regulatory, and manufacturer standards at all times.See #ATTACHMENTS section for photos of the generators, model numbers, and locations.
