DESCRIPTION: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), with Firecell, 10 Allee De La Palmeraie, Nice, France, for a 5G Standalone Small-Cell Base-Station and Core Network. This equipment will be utilized by the Engineering Laboratory (EL) at NIST, Gaithersburg, MD campus.
***** Sole source determination is based on the need to acquire a 5G Standalone Small-Cell Base-Station with low-latency release 15 capabilities in a small form-factor, upgrade path to release 16, core network functionality, customer premise equipment (CPE) to support IIoT and high-data-rate applications. They provide the only small form factor implementation that supports many features we need but not available from other sources. In order to build out our own 5G testbed for smart manufacturing automation, we need a mature solution that support 3GPP release a path to release and does not require NIST engineering staff to make work, is easily scalable, and integrates with many other core network solutions. We would not be able to advance in our work until new products emerge that potentially yield more viable options. This could take years or potentially never occur which would eliminate NIST
participating in this important research area.
Firecell, has been identified as the only manufacturer capable of providing the required equipment capable of meeting NIST-s minimum requirements or can performing the required minimum functions.
