Description
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), Center for Cancer Research (CCR), Clinical Pharmacology Program (CPP) plans to procure, on a sole source basis, a new state-of-the-art Powerex Scroll Enclosed air compressor system (SET2257HP) from:

The response close date of the notice for this requirement is in accordance with FAR 5.203(b). This acquisition will be processed under FAR Part 12 - Acquisition for Commercial Items and will be made pursuant to the authority in FAR Part 13.106-1 (b)(1) and is exempt from the requirements of FAR Part 6. The North American Industry Classification System code is 333912, Air and Gas Compressor Manufacturing, and the business size standard is 1,000 Employees.

The Clinical Pharmacology Program (CPP) is the primary source of clinical pharmacology studies (drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics, protein binding, pharmacogenomics) on drugs being studied in clinical trials for the CCR/NCI. In order to perform these studies, the CPP utilizes five (5) HPLC-mass spectrometric assays to identify and quantify drugs of interest in biological samples. Each of these five mass spectrometers require a significant volume of pure (99.0%) nitrogen gas in order to operate successfully that is continuously generated by first compressing room air into two high pressure (120 psi) with the new Powerex Scroll Enclosed air compressor, before filtering the air through a membrane that purifies the air into 99.9% pure nitrogen using a PEAK Scientific Infinity 5060 nitrogen generator.

Due to the constant sample analyses, which is necessary to provide cancer patients participating in NCI clinical trials with necessary dose adjustments based on pharmacology, the equipment needs to operate reliably and consistently on a daily basis. Most importantly, the new air compres...
