- The Global Declaration for River Dolphins signed in 2023, committed the signatory countries to implement research-driven solutions for mitigating the threats facing river dolphins and their rivers, and the millions of people who share their habitats. To support Amazon country clients in this effort, the World Bank, through the GEF-funded Amazon Sustainable Landscapes Program, aims to update and exchange information on the direct and indirect threats that affect dolphins in the Amazon basin and the legal framework for their protection, exchange best management practices, and develop and disseminate protocols (building on existing ones) to respond and prevent climate-related emergencies.
