- Mary and Robert Massie Halls are each a 96-unit (192-bed) resident hall. Each are three-story structures with a crawl space. Replacement of sanitary sewer lines in vertical chases and in crawl space (beneath first floor) in Robert and Mary Massie Residence Halls. All cast iron sanitary sewer lines are to be replaced with PVC lines. There are 32 vertical plumbing chases, 16 in each Hall. Each chase contains two (2) 4” cast iron sanitary sewer lines/risers the from the roof to the building crawlspace. Each residential unit drains into these vertical sanitary sewer lines/risers via one (1) 3" cast iron sanitary sewer line from the toilets and one (1) 2” cast iron sanitary sewer line from the sinks/showers. A main 6” cast iron sanitary sewer horizontal collection line exists in the crawl space; each 4” vertical line/riser ties into this 6” line. There is also a men-s and women-s restroom in the lobby of each hall that drain to the main 6” line via 4” cast iron sanitary sewer lines within the crawlspace. Essentially, all cast iron sanitary sewer lines are to be replaced with PVC lines. Five (5) of the 32 chases have recently been renovated. This project addresses the 27 chases that have not been converted to PVC.
