Description:
The San Francisco Public Library (SFPL or the Library), by way of this Request for Information (RFI), is requesting responses from qualified firms and parties with experience in media preservation, digitization, and archival-quality digital file creation. SFPL seeks input to inform the potential development of a competitive Request for Proposals (RFP) to transfer thousands of tape-based audio and moving image media items to digital formats, including conservation treatments where necessary, and the creation of technical metadata and checksums to support long-term preservation and access. Responding to this RFI is not mandatory and is not a prerequisite to participating in any future procurement. A firm-s response to this RFI will not influence evaluation or selection under any subsequent competitive solicitation. Publication of this RFI does not obligate the Library to issue a competitive procurement or RFP. SFPL serves all San Francisco residents and visitors, with a mission to “connect our diverse communities to learning, opportunities, and each other” by providing robust resources, programming, and services. In addition to extensive circulating materials and public services, SFPL maintains rich archival and special collections. These collections include thousands of rare and/or unpublished tape-based audio-visual recordings that have become increasingly fragile and difficult to access due to format obsolescence. This RFI seeks insight from vendors with relevant expertise to help shape an effective project approach to digitize and preserve this material for continued public use.
