The objective of this project is to respond to emergency disaster responses. Blowdown from Hurricane Helene has changed the fuel loading hindering the ability to use roads as containment lines for wildfire events. This has occurred within the spruce-fir ecozone on Roan Mountain where more than 25 acres of debris occur within 500 feet of roads and trails. Action is to remove the hazardous fuel along Toll House Gap to Roan Gardens Parking Area to maintain defensible space for firefighting activities, reduce hazardous fuel loads, and to protect the recreating public from catastrophic wildfire. - Documents:
