NOTICE OF INTENTThis is a notice of intent to solicit from a single source for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Volcano Science Center (VSC) in Menlo Park, CA.The US Geological Survey (USGS) intends to negotiate a purchase order with Tescan USA for preventative maintenance renewal service contract. A contract is needed to maintain the instrument at factory specification because of the mechanical and electronic complexity of the Scanning Electron Spectrometer (SEM). The contract eliminates excessive down time due to malfunction and component failure. Preventive maintenance service, cleaning and tuning is performed annually for contract holders. Tescan USA is the manufacturer of our Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) S/N VG 13831481. Tescan USA is the only company in the USA with factory trained service engineers for the Tescan SEMS and the manufacturer does not allow third party resale of its products. Furthermore, Tescan is the sole source or proprietary software required to operate and/or upgrade the software in the Tescan SEM.Award will be made in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 13.106-1(b) and the procedures at FAR Part 12 entitled, Acquisition of Commercial Items and FAR Part 13 entitled, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The purpose of this notice is to satisfy the requirements of FAR Subpart 5.2. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. Responsible parties may submit a capability statement by the closing date of this announcement which shall be considered by the agency. No solicitation will be issued.
