1. INTRODUCTIONBattelle Energy Alliance, LLC (BEA) Management & Operating Contractor of the U.S.Department of Energy (DOE) owned Idaho National Laboratory (INL), is preparing a solicitationin support the NASA Fission Surface Power program. This solicitation targets development andtesting of a Technical Demonstration Unit (TDU) to support technology maturation, and riskreduction.The FSP‐TDU is intended to be a non‐nuclear, electrically heated system that will demonstratethe feasibility, functionality, and performance of integrated subsystems in a representativeenvironment to advance relevant technology elements for the Fission Surface Power (FSP)program. The FSP‐TDU is intended to represent a flight system (FSP‐FS), but utilizing flightrelevantmaterials and processes where possible. This TDU is intended to be tested at NASAGlennResearch Center. The integrated subsystem test will produce the functional andperformance data used to inform the technical risk of the FSP project.INL, in coordination with NASA, intends to host an open information virtual session related tothis upcoming solicitation on July 31. This presolicitationnotice is intended to generate interest for potential industry partners, and allowinterested parties time to prepare for the formal RFP request
