This grant seeks to preserve Alaska-s agricultural history by drafting a nomination for the DePriest Colony Barn to the National Register of Historic Places.This project will be conducted at the DePriest Colony Barn in the Matanuska Valley. This location is historically significant because of its connection to President Roosevelt-s act during the Great Depression to move 203 upper-Midwestern families to the “Last Frontier.”Proposed actions include the following elements: Draft a nomination for the DePriest Barn for the National Register of Historic Places. Apply for restoration funds. Increase historical knowledge of the area and encourage potential heritage tourism. Comments concerning the proposed actions will be accepted from the affected public; local, state and federal agencies; and other interested parties in order to consider and evaluate alternatives and the environmental impacts of the proposed actions.
