NIST is seeking information from manufacturers or resellers that may be capable of a commercial item solution that meets or exceeds the minimum specifications included within this notice. Large and small, both foreign and domestic sources, are encouraged to respond to this notice.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Dimensional Metrology Group (DMG) provides high-accuracy dimensional measurements of reference gages for U.S. industry, academic research institutions and federal laboratories. As part of their mission, the NIST DMG has a requirement to measure the shape, and form of reference circular and cylindrical artifacts using a roundness measuring machine. The DMG has been fulfilling this role for over 30 years and has a requirement to purchase a new ultra-high-accuracy roundness measuring machine to continue the mission and ultimately replace old and aging NIST equipment.
DMG needs to replace the existing Mitutoyo model RA-H5000 roundness measuring machine which is now at end-of-life and is no longer repairable. The ability to trade in the current machine is also desirable.
The performance requirements of the Ultra-high Accuracy roundness measuring machine requirements are as follows:
All minimum uncertainty limits provide below are expressed as an expanded uncertainty, with k=2) as described in ISO Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement, and are valid over a range of temperatures of 20 Β± 1.0 Β° C.
The list of requirements provided in this notice is not exhaustive but represent the required physical construction and the minimum performance requirements.
