The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Research and Development Center (ERDC), Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (GSL) intends to issue a Firm Fixed Price (FFP) single source award to Geophysical Survey Systems Inc (CAGE 1DLQ5) for Vehicle-Mounted GPR. The Airfield and Pavements Branch (APB) team was tasked investigate the use of non-destructive test (NDT) methods for the evaluation of rural airfield pavements for the military. Standard airfield pavement evaluations require the determination of in-situ pavement structural profile, layer thickness, and pavement structural capacity. Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) devices uses radar pulses to study the subsurface layers of the pavement. The signals from the GPR instrument are transmitted through the ground and reflect off subsurface structures based on their electrical permittivity. Subsequently, variations in the return signals are recorded and are then used to create the pavement profile.
The award will be issued in accordance with FAR 13.106(b)(1)(i). The applicable North American Industrial Classification System Code (NAICS) code is 334511, Search, Detection, Navigation, Guidance, Aeronautical, and Nautical System and Instrument Manufacturing6, with a size standard of 1,350 employees.
